Drum Roll Please . . . Designing a Website

In 2005, some members of the GPOA Board attended a conference in Wilmington, NC, about HOAs. They returned to Greenbrier and told the Board that “a STRONG [their emphasis] suggestion at the seminar was that all residents should have copies of the By-laws.” One of the suggestions floated to remedy that situation was the idea of having a Greenbrier website and a committee, comprised of John Harding, Len Johnson, and James Becton was formed to investigate that idea.

Eventually, the committee hired an outside web designer, whose name is lost to history and in 2006, www.greenbriernc.com came online. The first webmaster was Ron Benray from 2007 – 2010. Dawn Heller took over as webmaster from 2011 to 2016, when she moved away from Greenbrier. The next webmaster was Bud Curtis, who has held the position until today.

In 2019, the Board decided that the website needed a facelift, so, guess what… yup, you’re right, a committee was formed to investigate the idea. This committee comprised of Rhona Beadle, Linda Dodge, Dan Cashman, and John Robinson found Jeremy LeRay of New Bern Web Design and hired him to be the Web Designer. Then came the hard work. What did they want to keep from the existing website? What needed to be updated? What new features might be added? What should they use for pictures?

A small army of folks sent in material to be compiled for the Clubs section and Rochelle Gibney and Connie Cousino wrote the Neighborhood sections you will find under the Community navigation button. Rita MacIndoe and Mandy Chew were proofreaders. Terry D’Arco took all the pictures, except the one of the rainbow over the golf course, which should be credited to Thomas McCabe. Updating the copy in the sections about covenants, ACC, and GPOA was done by Rhona Beadle, Linda Dodge, and Bill Stafford. Members on the ACC Committee and the GPOA Board were invited to read this copy and make changes.

Everything was emailed off to Jeremy LeRay who worked his magic weaving all the elements together into one cohesive website.

But we want you to know that greenbriernc.com is a living, breathing document. There are more Neighborhoods out there . . . write a piece, add a few pictures, and send it to gpoamail@gmail.com. Do you have a date for an activity happening in Greenbrier that you would like added to the calendar? Send it to gpoa@greenbriernc.org. Do you know of someone or some event that makes Greenbrier special? Send it to gpoa@greenbriernc.org.
