After a sold-out Lewis ‘n’ Clark Valentine’s Day concert in February, Covid-19 brought the Greenbrier social scene to a screeching halt. One by one, the GPOA cancelled the events planned to bring friends together. Gone was the Easter Egg Hunt; gone was four Burger Nights and the family 4th of July Golf event and Barbecue; gone was the Autumn Pig Pickin’ and the Welcome Reception.
One event remained. The Emerald continued to offer Community Dinners with one important change. Instead of diners gathering inside creating a buzz of conversation as they visited with each other and ate, the meals were served curbside and diners brought their meals home. Safe social distancing.
Every few weeks Chef Denise Plourd and her assistant, Susan Newberry, offer a salad, entrée, and dessert. Two of their most popular offerings are beef tenderloin and surf ‘n’ turf.
Some residents walk over to The Emerald to pick up their meals. Most residents drive up and Denise or Susan hand-deliver a bag with dinners to the happy customers safely seated in their cars. Especially grateful are the home chefs who won’t have to cook that night.
Dinners must be pre-ordered. How do you find out about these Community Dinners? Emails are sent to Emerald members and GPOA members. If you are not an Emerald or GPOA member, you can call the Clubhouse (252-633-4440) and inquire.
