Social Events

Greenbrier is a community that enjoys getting together.  Scattered throughout the year are a multitude of events and excuses for getting together, many of those events include food and drink.  All of this contributes to a close-knit sense of community.

Easter Egg Hunt
On the Saturday before Easter, the Easter Bunny visits Greenbrier and leaves candy eggs for children eight years and younger.

Burger Nights
Once a month on Sundays in April, May, June, and August, folks gather to enjoy a burger with all the fixings and dessert.  These casual gatherings have become a big hit.  Each Burger Night is hosted by a different club in Greenbrier: ELGA (Ladies Golf), EMGA (Men’s Golf), Greenbrier Home and Garden Club, Fund for Needy Children. Depending on the host group, there might also be a putting contest and/or musical entertainment.

Fourth of July Golf Tourney and BBQ
The GPOA hosts a golf tourney by day and a BBQ and entertainment in the evening.  Prizes are awarded for tourney winners at the BBQ.  Open to Greenbrier residents and guests and Emerald members.  The event ends early enough for folks to go on to the Fireworks displays downtown if they choose.

Arts and Crafts Exhibit
New Bern is notable for the quality and quantity of its artists – perhaps one of the reasons so many people love to call it home.  Greenbrier mirrors that creative make-up, with an absolute wealth of talented artists, poets, and writers who may be your next- door neighbor!  The Arts and Craft Exhibit seeks to provide Greenbrier artisans with a venue for their work and to provide Greenbrier residents and guests with an opportunity to see the work and meet the artists.

Designed as an exhibit, rather than a sale, the event provides an opportunity for future communication and sales or commissions.  The event also brings the community together as we learn of the extraordinary talents in this relatively small sub-division.

Pig Pickin’
Beginning in 2018, the GPOA hosted a Pig Pickin’ to celebrate the roll-out of their new directory.  Two complimentary tickets are provided for each advertiser in the Directory.  Greenbrier residents pay for their own meals. After eating, someone from the GPOA takes the microphone to acknowledge the advertisers and thank them for their support.

New Residents Welcome Reception – by invitation only
Homeowners who have moved into Greenbrier during the last calendar year are invited to dessert and coffee at The Emerald.  The purpose is to welcome them. Time for mingling is provided, new-comer packets are passed out to anyone who has not already received one from the Welcome Committee visit. After refreshments, a short program covering the highlights of Greenbrier and New Bern is included, followed by door prizes.  This is hosted by the Welcome Committee.

Christmas Social
Each December, the GPOA sponsors an evening of food, drink, and entertainment.  Greenbrier friends, neighbors, and guests gather to enjoy each other’s company.

Carol Singing in the Park
This Greenbrier tradition was started by resident Suzanne Blais in 2017.  Folks gather at Bear Park in the late afternoon on a December weekend and sing carols.  Sheets with lyrics are provided.  In 2018, they visited shut-ins in Greenbrier as part of the Carol Sing.
